11th Sunday of Matthew

We had enough people sign up for church this morning that I stayed home with the girls. Got most of the laundry folded and ran some more. Lucia emptied the dishwasher. The living room feels like it will allow me to breathe and walk again. I had to separate the chickens, and I think this let the younger pullets destress a bit and ensure they got access to food and water. I got a rest in and did some AFR, and after vespers I weeded more in the tomato patch. Father took a lovely video as a sample of the children's game of running up and down the hill in the backyard, with rules about taking turns and when it was time to walk and when to run, and for the most part they enjoyed themselves immensely and in pure innocence, which was a joy to finish out the day. I am so glad I have a little keepsake with their giggles and shouts and beaming, happy faces.

Post-Derecho, Day 11

Today I raked the rest of the backyard, yielding a chest-high pile of branches. The strawberry leaves are making a run for the cherry tree. The raspberries are heavy laden, but do their best to stand up when hoisted out of the weeds into which they were beaten down. For inside work, I finished three little transcripts for AFR. I went back out, but had so many blisters I couldn't face more raking, so I waded into the weeds and found several tomato plants. I think they did pretty well in the storm because they had so many weeds to cushion them! The ground was hard, and I'm sure I left plenty of roots in, but there is lots of sunshine to be had with all the old trees carved out of the sky. I am grateful there is wine to relieve the pain in my back and plenty of cold water to fill the rest of me. Everything aches in a good way.
